About Us

Principal's Welcome

I would like to welcome you to our website. Greaghrahan National School is a small rural primary school situated just off the Ballyconnell to Belturbet road, adjacent to the Slieve Russell Hotel. Greaghrahan National School is a warm, welcoming and inclusive school where children are educated in a safe, happy and caring atmosphere.
We have a committed and dedicated staff who believe in creating a fun and active learning environment where each child’s unique character and abilities are recognised, developed and celebrated. Our lower pupil-teacher ratio means children receive small-group attention from an early age and our pupils regularly achieve results well above the national average in Standardised Tests. The work of the school is supported by a diligent Board of Management and an active Parents’ Association.

In recent years our school building and playground facilities have been developed and upgraded. Our spacious classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and computer suite. We have a spacious playground including a large grass area, a wonderful soft play area and two playing courts.
Through our website, we hope to give you the opportunity to access information about events happening in our school. We hope you will gain an understanding of the principles and values in our school and the wide range of enjoyable learning experiences offered to our pupils. Please contact us if you have any questions or would like to arrange a visit.

Mission Statement

Greaghrahan National School is a Catholic School which aims to provide a happy, secure and inclusive learning environment where each child will realise his or her potential. This educational process is seen as involving partnerships of parents, teachers, Board of Management and the Christian and wider community helping the child to grow as a well-balanced person.

School Ethos

Greaghrahan N.S. espouses a child-centred approach to learning where the children themselves play an active role in their own education.  Individual differences are recognised and catered for and all children are encouraged to achieve.  The children are encouraged to express their personalities and to develop their talents. While the school has a Catholic Ethos, it recognises and respects other religions and beliefs. Equality is also a fundamental part of our set of principles; we try to ensure that every child is given an equal chance of achieving optimum personal fulfilment.
