Cumann na mBunscol

Well done to the boys in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes who competed very well in the Cumann na mBunscol blitz on Monday 26th May.  They all represented the school so well.

Barry Brennan a former Galway County Footballer paid a very special surprise visit to the Greaghrahan boys today as they took part in the Cumann na Bunscoil.  Barry was delighted to see so many young kids out playing sport.  Barry also said that it was great to see some good talented footballers among the squad.

Barry was part of winning Galway team of 1976 who won the All Ireland Minor Title, he then went on to play with the Senior Galway Team from 1979 to 1987, during this team Barry was part of the winning team of 5 Connacht championships in 1982, 1983, 1984, 1986 & 1987.

Barry said they are all great memories but one of his most treasured memories was captaining the Galway side in 1980 & 1981 where they won the 1981 league beating Roscommon by 8 points and he was awarded with an ALL STAR AWARD.

Barry was part of the team that narrowly missed out on an All Ireland title when they lost to Dublin in 1983 by 2 points.

Barry gave the boys some great advice in the dressing rooms before they went out to play their final game of the day and its safe to say that it surely resonated with the boys who played their best game of the day against a very strong Kildallan NS side who now go forward to the county final, we would like to wish Killdallan the very best of luck in the next stage of the Cumann na mBunscoil.

Every child had a fantastic time searching high and low around our play area for the cleverly hidden Easter eggs. What a fun and active way to celebrate the season — well done, everyone!

Christmas story Reading

18/12/2024

This year, the Senior Room found a beautiful way to share the magic of Christmas by writing their very own Christmas stories and then visited the younger classes to read them aloud.
From the moment the seniors walked in, carrying their colorful notebooks and beaming with excitement, the little ones' faces lit up. Some seniors had written tales about mischievous elves, others about snowy adventures and Christmas miracles. Each story was a glimpse into a young author's imagination — full of wonder, humor, and heart. Thank you for a sharing your wonderful stories with the Junior Room.

This months Theme was 'The Haunted House on the Hill' and the children in the Junior room have had great fun. Some of the activities included learning spooky Halloween songs, creating a hoolie for the goblins and creating magical spells and potions in the role play. The children have constructed their own haunted houses and created a range of Halloween items using play dough. The children created some lovely Halloween witches using a range of materials, pumpkins and spooky ghosts.  The fun continued on Friday when the children dressed up in their favourite Halloween costumes and enjoyed some treats.

We recently held a prayer service to celebrate the beginning of the new school year and to thank Fr. Gerry Comiskey for all his help, support and spiritual guidance he has given our school over the past 14 years.  It is with great sadness that Fr. Gerry will be leaving the parish of Drumlane, he will sorely missed.  Many thanks again Fr. Gerry and we wish you all the very best on the next step of your journey.

We are delighted to share that our Junior Infants have settled into school life wonderfully! Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen them adjust to new routines, make friends, and embrace the exciting learning environment here at Greaghrahan NS.   As the weeks progress, we are excited to see how the Junior Infants continue to thrive in their new environment.  At this stage, much of their learning is done through play and hands-on activities, which the children have embraced wholeheartedly. Here's to a wonderful start and an exciting journey ahead for our Junior Infants! A massive well done to all the Senior Infants and 1st Class children who have been amazing at welcoming the Junior Infants to the room and being great buddies to them all.

As part of the the new free play curriculum which is designed to enhance children’s learning and development through play-based experiences. The children had great fun learning all about birthdays and the theme of 'The Birthday Party'. During free play the children played party games,  created invitations and birthday cards, set the birthday table, made presents and made some playdough cakes! To end our theme we had a whole class birthday party. We had a great time!
