Advent Prayer Services

20/12/2023

We held a prayer service in the school each Monday for the four weeks leading up to Christmas.  Advent is a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to the birth of Jesus. The purple cloth represents the colour of penance. The gradual lighting of the candles on the Advent wreath symbolises our expectation and hope as we await the birth of the Saviour. The wreath itself is also symbolic. The circle of evergreen leaves represents everlasting life. The nuts and cones used to decorate the wreath are symbolic of resurrection, and fruits represent the nourishment we receive through the Christian life. The prayer service was led by a different class each week. Thank you to all the pupils that participated and to the parents who joined us each Monday morning.

Christmas Craft Fair in St. Mogue's

St. Mogue's School, Bawnboy hosted a very successful Christmas Craft Fair on Friday December 8th. The children travelled by bus to the fair where there were a number of stalls set up by TY student enterprises and some local businesses. They were kindly supplied with hot chocolate and crepes on arrival.  The children browsed the stalls, met some students and staff and even did some haggling. Some children bought handmade crafts and others some homemade treats.
Santa came to visit with a treat for each child! Well done and thank you to the students and staff involved, it was a great trip and an excellent start to the festive season!

St. Mogue's College held a Christmas 'Tráth na gCeist'  (Quiz) on Kahoot for local primary schools to take part in over Zoom.  We had four teams compete 'Nollaig Shona', 'Daidí na Nollaig', 'Banríon slé' and 'Seacláid'. The children in the Senior classes really enjoyed taking part answering a range of multiple choice questions as Gaeilge across a number of categories- Christmas songs, Christmas traditions and Christmas movies. Well done to Nollaig Shona, Daidí na Nollaig and Banríon Slé who took 1st, 2nd and 3rd places! Maith sibh!
