The pupils from the Junior classes in Greaghrahan NS and Newtowngore NS came together to explore the theme of Hallowe'en through Aistear. The children developed their problem solving skills as they worked as a team at the Hallowe'en games station. They had lots of fun as they used their creativity in the Role-play corner to conjure up magic spells to cast on their victims. They also learned Literacy, Numeracy and SESE skills through the theme of Hallowe'en during their two shared learning sessions. Thank you Newtowngore NS. We really enjoyed having you with us for Hallowe'en and we are looking forward to seeing you again soon!

Autumn Scavenger Hunt

On Friday the boys and girls took advantage of the dry morning to go on a Scavenger Hunt to explore the beautiful leaves, nuts and berries that are in abundance at this time of year. We spotted hips, haws, blackberries and snowberries. We also identified oak, hazel and beeh trees and looked for their fruits underneath. Why not go on your own Scavenger hunt over the weekend. There are tree identification charts and activity sheets on the fantastic Nature detectives section of the Woodlands Trust website at https://naturedetectives.woodlandtrust.org.uk/
 Happy hunting!

Greaghrahan NS played host to all kinds of ghouls, goblins, ghosts, vampires and witches on Wednesday evening as the children attended our Hallowe'en Party. There were edible treats and party games and even a scary story for those who were brave enough! A huge thank you to our Parent Association who put so much work into making the evening a fun and memorable occasion for all the children. Check out the party page below!

Play - Our Favourite Way of Learning

Our Junior Infants have been having fun exploring the playground and its endless opportunities for physical and social development. "How high can I climb on the ropes? Am I brave enough to cross the rope bridge? Or go down the fireman's pole? Is there place for me on the see-saw and will we balance or need to swap places?" They have been learning about turn taking and teamwork on the spinner and see-saw. They have had their physical capabilities challenged on the climbing frame. The Mars Rover has provided limitless opportunity for dramatic play as the children use their imagination to explore their environment. What a fun way to learn and make friends at the same time!

Author and TG4 script writer Gemma Breathnach visited the school on Wednesday. She read her latest book "Percy Péacóg" for the children. Gemma encouraged the children to engage with the story through mime. She told us the book was inspired by her daughter. It took several months from when she started writing the book until it was published. The book was beautifully illustrated by Tarsile-Kruse. Gemma's book can be purchased by visiting www.futafata.ie.
