Seachtain na Gaeilge is an annual celebration of our native language and culture. During the week, all pupils and staff made a greater effort to speak Irish and to participate in activities to promote the language. During Seachtain na Gaeilge, the children were busy learning Irish songs and poems, tin whistle tunes and they even practised some Sean nós dancing. The week concluded with our annual 'Green Day' where the children dressed in green for the day and held a short 'Seisiún' for parents. Our language and culture was celebrated through music, song, dance and recitation.
Míle buíochas to the children and all who made it such an enjoyable afternoon. Bhí sé go hiontach!

We celebrated World Book Day in school on Thursday 2nd March.  There were a range of activities happening throughout the school to mark this special day.  All the children were invited to dress up as a character from a book and everyone really made a fabulous effort.  Many thanks to all the parents who helped their children recreate their favourite characters!
As a whole school we all came together to view everyone's costumes and each child had the opportunity to talk about the character they had come as.
During the day shared reading activities took place as well as hot-seating games and book scavenger hunts.
All children were awarded with a special World Book Day certificate in recognition of their particpation  on the day.

Ash Wednesday

On Ash Wednesday the children in 5th and 6th class led us in a beautiful prayer service to mark the beginning of Lent.
The word Lent comes from the Latin word “Lente” which means springtime. Lent is a time to grow and change through prayer, fasting and almsgiving to prepare for Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday.
During Lent, we remember the forty days during which Jesus prayed and did penance in the desert. We also take time to remember that Jesus suffered, died, and rose again to show us how much he loved us. Lent presents us with a time when we try to be more like Jesus in the things we do for ourselves and for others.
Sr Rita joined us for our prayer service and distributed the ashes on each child’s forehead.  The mark on our forehead is a sign to everyone that we are taking Lent seriously and that we are trying to be better friends of Jesus. These ashes were once the palms of Palm Sunday, so they are also ashes of hope. They remind us that we are all part of God’s creation.

Pancake Tuesday 2017

We celebrated Pancake Tuesday this year by cooking our own pancakes in school. The children from 5th and 6th class put their mathematical skills to the test by making sure all the recipe measurements were correct.
The mouthwatering aroma coming from the school hall had everyone waiting in anticipation.
Pupils got to sample beautiful pancakes with a variety of toppings.  They really were delicious!  Some of the 5th and 6th class children even tried to flip a few pancakes!!
Many thanks to Mrs Connolly and Mrs Burns for helping out on the day.
