The senior room enjoyed Volleyball at lunchtime today. It was great to have a different lunch time game to play and the children really enjoyed perfecting their skills. 🥎

Today all of the children took part in a skipathon. They competed against the rest of the children in their classroom to get as many skips in 30 seconds (junior room) and 1 minute (rest of the school) as they could. Skipping is an excellent way for children to increase their physical activity and improve their health. It can be a tricky skill to master but the children did fantastically and gave it their all with lots of giggles along the way! 🤩 The children in the junior, middle, and senior rooms enjoyed their gymnastics session with Coach Sharon today. Thank you Sharon for an enjoyable experience! The middle and senior rooms had great fun today learning the skills of Tug of War. Coach Donal taught them the basic skills of Tug of War first, before moving on to the real thing. Even the staff got involved 😆 Thank you Donal for giving us a taster of Tug of War, we really enjoyed it. What a lovely way to start each morning this active school week. All of the children, staff and some parents met in our outdoor courts to walk with a smile for 10 minutes this morning. The sunshine and music really boosted our mood 😊 Both students and staff are really looking forward to Active School Week next week. We have a fun and action-packed week planned. The children will get tasters from different sports, play traditional sports day games and access all strands of the PE curriculum. We will start every day with a 10-minute Walk with a Smile and we would love it if parents could join us. We will finish the week off with Sports Day! It looks like we will have nice weather again so don't forget your sun screen and sun hats :-)
We introduced our Active Homework Journals this week. While Active Homework is nothing new, our new Active Homework Journals are a great way for us to record our active homework activities. This resource has been developed to bring the children's Physical Education experience home. The PE Homework- Active Everyday activities are designed to complement the activities that the children are learning in school. Each night the children will have an activity sheet added to their Active Homework Journal. These activities are based on the 5 strands of the PE curriculum- Games, Athletics, Gymnastics, Dance and Outdoor and Adventure. A new activity sheet will be added to the Active Homework Journal each day. The Junior Room will complete Level 1 activities, the Middle Room will complete Level 2 activities and the Senior Room will complete Level 3 activities. If there is more than one child in the household, they can help each other with their PE homework! The activities can be completed inside or outside given the wonderful weather. All activities can be completed individually by the child, or they can be adapted to include family members, neighbours or friends. Don’t forget to warm-up using one or two of the Warm-Up Activities bank at the back of the journal. 😊 We are looking forward to seeing all your lovely pictures! Well done to the boys and girls from 3rd to 6th class who took part in the Cumann na mBuncsol competition in Drumlane GAA, Kildallan GAA and Templeport GAA pitch over the last few weeks. We always emphasise the importance of taking part, trying your best and most importantly having fun and you definitely showed great teamwork and enthusiasm throughout your games. The Active School Flag Committee has been running active school lines. When the bell goes at lunchtime, the children space out in their lines and wait for the ASF Committee leaders to call out the activity and instructions. It is a great way for the children to get some extra physical activity done before returning to class. It is also a great way to practice fundamental movements ☺ |
